Some Asteroids ( Image credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/JAXA/ESA) The asteroid belt lies between the orbits of the planets Mars and Jupiter. In this specific region, you will find the vast majority of asteroids. These asteroids are also known as minor planets or planetoids. Some of the main bodies in the asteroid belt are Ceres, Vesta, Pallas, Juno, and Hygiea. Ceres is the only asteroid that is classified as a dwarf planet, as it is the largest object in the inner solar system. Ceres and these four asteroids comprise about half the mass of the entire asteroid belt. The entire belt is made up of billions of bodies, but only 7,000 have received an official designation. Asteroids vary in size. Some of them are as small as pebbles and some of them have a diameter of more than 400 km. __________________ El cinturón de asteroides se encuentra entre las órbitas de los planetas Marte y Júpiter.
