Mars / Marte

Mars is also called the Red Planet and is the fourth planet from the Sun. It is part of the so-called rocky planets like Earth and is in many aspects the planet most alike the Earth. The atmosphere of Mars is a hundredth of the one of the Earth and its composition is essentially: carbon dioxide in a high percentage with some nitrogen, argon and molecular oxygen. The ozone content is 1000 times lower than the Earth, so that the layer is unable to block ultraviolet radiation. Its atmosphere is dense enough to hold strong winds and vast dust storms that can eventually encompass the entire planet for months creating sand dunes, common renderings in Martian deserts. Mars has two small moons, whose orbit is very close to the planet, Phobos and Deimos. It takes 687 days to orbit around the sun. Its diameter is 6780 km.

Marte es también llamado el Planeta Rojo y es el cuarto planeta del Sistema Solar. Forma parte de los llamados planetas rocosos como la Tierra y es en muchos aspectos el planeta más parecido a la Tierra. La atmósfera de Marte representa una centésima parte de la terrestre y su composición es fundamentalmente: dióxido de carbono en un altísimo porcentaje junto a un poco de nitrógeno, argón y oxígeno molecular. El contenido de ozono es 1000 veces menor que en la Tierra, por lo que su capa  es incapaz de bloquear la radiación ultravioleta. Su atmósfera es lo bastante densa como para albergar fuertes vientos y grandes tormentas de polvo que pueden llegar a abarcar el planeta entero durante meses y deviniendo en dunas de arena habituales en  los desiertos marcianos. Marte posee dos pequeños satélites naturales, cuya órbita está muy próxima al planeta, Fobos y Deimos. Tarda 687 días en dar la vuelta alrededor del sol. Su diámetro es 6780 km.
