The mythology of the Moon / Mitología de la Luna

In ancient Roman religion and myth, Luna is the divine embodiment of the Moon. She is often presented as the female complement of the Sun (Sol) conceived of as a god. Luna is also sometimes represented as an aspect of the Roman triple goddess (diva triformis), along with Proserpina and Hecate. Luna is not always a distinct goddess, but sometimes rather an epithet that specializes a goddess, since Diana and Hecate are  also identified as moon goddesses. Luna's Greek counterpart was Selene, and Diana's was Artemisa. The celestial character of Diana is reflected in her connection with moonlight, inaccessibility and her preference for dwelling on high mountains and in sacred woods. Diana therefore reflects the heavenly world in its sovereignty and supremacy but at the same time, she is seen as active in ensuring the succession of kings and in the preservation of humankind through the protection of childbirth. As a goddess of hunting, Diana often wears a short tunic and hunting boots. She is often portrayed holding a bow, and carrying a quiver on her shoulder, accompanied by a deer or hunting dogs.

En la antigua religión romana Luna era la encarnación divina de la Luna. A menudo se la representa como complemento femenino del Sol, concebidos como un solo dios. Luna también se representa como un aspecto de triple diosa romana junto a Proserpina y Hécate. Luna no siempre es una diosa distinta, sino más bien un epíteto relacionado con varias diosas, ya que Diana y Hécate también se identifican como diosas lunares. La homóloga griega de Luna era Selene y la de Diana era Artemisa. El carácter celestial de Diana se refleja en su relación con la luz de la luna, que representa inaccesibilidad y se la presupone viviendo en altas montañas o en bosques sagrados. Por lo tanto, aunque Diana refleja el mundo celestial en su soberanía y supremacía,  al mismo tiempo, se representa como algo cercano, al asegurar la sucesión de los reyes y la preservación de la humanidad a través de la protección del parto. Como diosa de la caza, Diana menudo lleva una túnica corta y botas de caza. Es a menudo retratada con un arco y un carcaj en el hombro, y acompañada de un ciervo o de varios perros de caza.
